VERBIER FESTIVAL: CLASSICAL MUSIC IN THE HEART OF THE SWISS ALPS

Summit’s cultural partner, the Verbier Festival is an annual international classical music festival that takes place in Verbier, Switzerland, aiming to create a community of exchange between great masters and young musicians at the heart of the Swiss Alps.

For more than 25 years, the globally renowned Festival has welcomed classical music aficionados with a vast programme of events, both large-scale and intimate. Audiences from around the world come to experience music-making at the highest level in the inspiring setting of Verbier, where star performers and rising talents are brought together. Moreover, the Verbier Festival includes an Academy—a laboratory where future talents are discovered and nurtured—from emerging soloists to chamber and orchestral musicians, from singers to conductors.

create socially engaged music, centred on the theme of globalisation. At the 2022 virtual Summit, themed Resource Hungry, Gabriel will feature Pastoral 21, a music and sound experience for strings, live electronics and field recordings. The project asks what ‘pastoral’ means to us in this time of climate crisis, and features Gabriel’s Pastoral Reflections, a new work commissioned by the Verbier Festival in response to Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony. The work integrates atmospheric audio clips from nature in Verbier and was presented at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, calling for climate action during the important exchanges taking place there.

The 2022 edition of the Verbier Festival will run from 15 until 31 July.
